RJ Hadley was elected as Rockdale Tax Commissioner in 2012. As Tax Commissioner, RJ was recognized in 2014, and again in 2015, by the National Association of Counties (NACo), winning awards for innovation and communication in local government. He was also the first Tax Commissioner to be honored by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with the 2014 Civic and Community Engagement Advocate of the Year Award for his outreach programs. That same year, he was named to the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Leadership Institute. There, RJ studied, along with 55 other private, public and non-profit leaders, the major challenges and opportunities facing the Atlanta Metro region. In 2015, he was a named a finalist for Tax Commissioner of the Year by the GA Association of Tax Officials (GATO). In 2016, RJ made a run for Chairman of Rockdale County. Although he fell just short in that race, RJ continues to serve Rockdale as Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner.
RJ has been active as a strong Georgia Democrat for over a decade having served as Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, 2008 Obama Delegate to the Democratic National Convention and in various leadership roles with his beloved Rockdale County Democratic Party.
RJ Hadley is a graduate of Dartmouth College with nearly 30 years of management and technology experience. RJ has a desire to improve the lives of others and a heart for service. After college, he worked in the Atlantic County, NJ Family Court as a Juvenile Social Worker. Before moving to Georgia, RJ attended the University of Tennessee Law School and volunteered as a Knoxville Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). In Rockdale, RJ worked to develop senior housing with the non-profit Affordable Housing CDC while also serving as a youth mentor with the Boys and Girls Club and 4-H. RJ holds a Computer Science degree from Richard Stockton College of NJ.
He has worked as a software engineer and a project manager with the Federal Aviation Administration, Motorola, and Logica. While at Logica, RJ managed an engineering staff in multiple U.S. cities and in London, England. He is currently completing his Masters degree in Public Administration with Troy University.
RJ and his wife, Dr. Tarah Hadley, have lived in Rockdale since 2006. They have 5 children.
