RJ Hadley is a graduate of Dartmouth College. After college, he worked in the Atlantic County, NJ Family Court as a Juvenile Social Worker. He also holds a Computer Science B.S. from Richard Stockton College of NJ. Before moving to Rockdale, RJ attended the University of Tennessee Law School and volunteered as a Knoxville Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).
RJ has worked in the technology sector as a software engineer and a project manager with the Federal Aviation Administration, Motorola, and Logica. While at Logica, RJ managed an engineering staff in multiple U.S. cities and in London, England.
He has previously served as Chief of Staff for Rockdale County and is currently Rockdale Tax Commissioner. Before his election as Tax Commissioner in 2012, RJ worked to develop senior housing with the non-profit Affordable Housing CDC and was certified in Homeownership Education and Counseling.
As Tax Commissioner, RJ was recognized in 2014, and again in 2015, by the National Association of Counties (NACO) for innovation and communication in local government. He was also honored by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) with the 2014 Civic and Community Engagement Advocate of the Year Award for his outreach programs. That same year, he was named to the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Leadership Institute. RJ studied, along with 55 other private, public and non-profit leaders, the major challenges and opportunities facing the Atlanta Metro region. In 2015, he was a named a finalist for Tax Commissioner of the Year by the GA Association of Tax Officials (GATO). RJ is also a member of the Awesome Leadership Rockdale Class of 2016.
From his days of counseling troubled teens, RJ is committed to empowering youth in the region. He is a mentor with Barksdale Boys and Girls Club, an adult youth leader with Rockdale 4-H and a unit coordinator with the Boy Scouts’ Yellow River District.
RJ and his wife, Dr. Tarah Hadley, have lived in Rockdale since 2006. They have 5 children.
